The Christian Examiner is reporting today that a U.S. Marine has been court-martialed and dropped in rank over a dispute involving a Bible verse that the Marine had placed upon her desk.
She was found guilty of failing to go to her appointed place of duty, disrespect toward a superior commissioned officer, and four specifications of disobeying the lawful order of a noncommissioned officer.
The article goes on to say that Lance Corporal Monifa Sterling had refused to remove an “altered” portion of scripture that read: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper,” from her commanding Staff Sargeant.
She was given a “bad conduct” discharge, as well as the charges previously mentioned in the quote.
It looks like this case is heading to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and Mrs. Monifa Sterling has some high-powered counsel backing her up. The Liberty Institute and U.S. Solicitor Paul Clement has picked up the case. It will be very, very interesting to see how this plays out in court.
Do you think that this case falls under the “Freedom of Religion” or “Freedom of Speech” articles of our U.S. Constitution, or could it be both? Comment below with your thoughts.
Make no doubt about it, our religious freedom, or rather, our Christian freedom is being attacked upon all sides. I think that we are just at the very beginning of a very big anti-Christian movement within the United States.
